Stikine MLA named deputy spokesperson for Mining

February 19, 2016 (HAZELTON, BC) -- Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson was named deputy spokesperson for mining yesterday by Official Opposition leader John Horgan, in addition to retaining his role as lead spokesperson in the children and family development portfolio.

“I’m very excited to be taking on these additional responsibilities, especially with the importance of the mining and exploration sectors in Stikine and northern BC,” said Donaldson.  “Premier Clark’s government has decreased investor confidence with its approach to aboriginal title, damaged public confidence in environmental oversight, and is not doing enough with land use planning to ensure we are well positioned for the next upswing in the sector. I look forward to working with our energy and mines spokesperson MLA Norm MacDonald on behalf of all the people in BC who depend on the mining sector. "

Donaldson’s added role came on the same day Horgan assigned Official Opposition spokesperson duties to newly elected BC MLAs Melanie Mark and Jodi Wickens, who won by-elections in Vancouver-Mt. Pleasant and Coquitlam-Burke Mountain on Feb. 2.

“I know these two women will be strong voices in the legislature,” said Donaldson.  “They both had important by-election victories that demonstrate people are ready for change.”
