Smithers, B.C. – A First Nation along the proposed route for the Northwest Transmission Line say they are willing to fight the power line going in. The Gitanyow First Nation have not yet reached an agreement with BC Hydro to allow the 404 million dollar transmission line to go through their territory. Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson says the approval from both the federal and provincial governments shouldn’t have been given yet until negotiations were completed. “It really shows you who is out of touch with what’s happening on the ground in the Northwest and Stikine. The Gitanyow is at odds with BC Hydro and really they’ve bungled this situation, the provincial government. The people of Stikine, the Gitanyow and the people of this province are going to pay for the mismanagement .” BC Hydro says they are hoping to start construction on the power line that will go from the Skeena Substation to Bob Quinn Lake this spring and have it done in 2013.
