The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services heard a wide range of priorities during a public consultation meeting in Prince George on Tuesday.

Stikine MLA and Committee Deputy Chair Doug Donaldson says one of the stand-out presentations of the day came from the Child Development Centre of Prince George.

They presented on long-term savings achieved by investing in early intervention therapies for children.

Donaldson says the presenter said that investing ten thousand dollars in a child now could save the government up to 700 thousand dollars down the road.

Donaldson says they also heard from the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, whose members would like to see a referendum on the HST sooner than next year because it’s causing too much uncertainty.

After all 23 of the province-wide hearings have wrapped up, the committee will have until November 15th to present what they heard to the government.
